The Society of Occupational Medicine

Since January 2012, the Society of Occupational Medicine (som.org.uk) has opened up membership to 'associated healthcare professionals'.  Applications can be made via the website which also holds details of members' benefits and costs.  Toxicologists are classified as 'associated healthcare professionals' and my application has been accepted.

LTG (formally the London Toxicology Group)

The first meeting of the LTG (ltg.uk.net) in 2012 is scheduled for 17 Feb 2012 at the Carthusian Suite at The Chamber of Shipping, London.  The title is 'Contentious Issues in Toxicology' and is folowed by an EGM.  Content includeds a discussion on certified reference material, use of vitreous fluid in toxicology, and allergies.
This meeting is dedicated to Brian Widdop who recently passed away.  Brian served the LTG and wider community of analytical toxicology for many years before his retirement.

National Pathology Year is Here

National Pathology Year 2012 is an opportunity for pathologists and scientists to hold events throughout the year. It will also be an opportunity to develop relationships with schools, science centres and museums so that pathologists can contiue promoting pathology for many years to come. World Day for Safety and Health at Work

28 Apr 2011 is World Day for Safety and Health at Work as denoted by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) www.ilo.org. This year the day will focus on a sytems approach for the prevention of workplace accidents and the management of occupational safety and health. This year's theme will take a look at logical and useful tools for the promotion of the continual improvement of occupational safety and health performance at an organisational level.

Oil and Gas UK Examining Doctors' Conference

I have been invited to speak at the Oil and Gas UK Examining Doctors' Conference in Aberdeen on 02 Mar 2011 (oilandgasuk.co.uk). My presentation is titled, Use of Novel Samples in Substance Abuse Testing. I have been asked to expand on the use of hair and oral fluid samples in substance misuse testing. The provisional programme is attached to this posting.

LTG meeting (formally the London Toxicology Group)

The LTG will be holding its first meeting of 2011 on 18 Feb 2011.  Titled Poisoning by Accident or Design the group will listen to presentations on pesticide poisoning in rural Asia and Edinburgh, the detection of illicit drugs in the urban water cycle and trace metal analysis for metal-on-metal hips.  If anyone is interested in attending as my guest please contact me via this website.
